A letter from a swinging voter after the Beaudesert meet the candidates evening - 13th March, 2009
Hi Andy

I have just returned home from the ‘meet the candidates’ forum this evening. I left early as I needed to be home by 9pm for a phone call. I had planned to ask a question but decided not to on the night after hearing all the candidates – as I’m not convinced of their motives, nor of their abilities.
Whilst you may be aware that I am usually a labour supporter I just wanted to give you some feedback regarding your speech tonight. Without doubt your speech shone through as the most articulate, relevant and substantial oration and the rest of the candidates appeared amateur to say the least – with the majority of them ‘making it up as they went along’. I don’t think Pauline even realised we had no maternity wing until this evening!
I particularly appreciated the fact that you didn’t ‘diss’ your opponents too much but rather told us the positive things you (and the greens) will do and you backed it up with real solutions, data and research. You communicated in a way that was intelligent, factual and above all respectful – something the other candidates were not quite able to do – their thinly veiled jibes are very off putting.
When questions were thrown at you, I was impressed with your knowledge and facts, and also the professional way you held yourself – in spite of sharing a stage with Pauline and Aiden. So Andy, whilst I am traditionally a red voter, please consider me a ‘swinger’ and count on at least one more vote from the beaudesert polls!
Well done!!!

The Boonah-Beaudesert Greens
The local green’s party group formed as momentum gathered in the Rathdowney community to prevent the building of a dam across the Logan River that would shadow the local community. A number of Green Party politicians included Andrew Bartlett and Bob Brown actively supported the local community in having the decision to build dam reversed.
This led to the formation of the local Green’s Party
Proposed Bulldust Dam at Wyaralong

Members of the Boonah-Beaudesert Greens attended the first Public Meeting in Boonah where Anna Bligh was questioned on the unsustainability of the proposed dam.
A contingent of Boonah-Beaudesert Greens attended the Public Information Day in February 2007 for the Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Bulldust Dam at Boonah and provided information on the Terms of Reference
Clean up Australia Day March 2007
The Boonah-Beaudesert Greens organised two successful roadside rubbish removal groups as part of Clean Up Australia Day. One group was based in the northern end of the shire near Chambers Flat Road, and another group cleaned up along the Mt Lindesay Highway near Tamrookum Ck Road.

Volunteers at the Tamrookum Ck Road site filled thirty large bags of rubbish in only a one kilometre section of highway.  Organizer Desley Agnoletto said she was amazed at the amount of rubbish collected.  "It didn't look that dirty, and when we initially chose the site we were wondering if we could find enough rubbish there", she said.

The most common items littering the roadside were glass bottles, plastic drink containers, takeaway food packaging and sections of tyres.  Some of the more unusual items found were a car battery and two pairs of pants.

Walk on Warming
A group of Boonah-Beaudesert Greens braved a torrential downpour for the Walk on Warming March.
